On the up.

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Well I’ve been studying hard the past couple of weeks. I decided that if I was to get anywhere with my affiliate campaigns then I would have no choice but to launch an AdWords campaign. Any of you who have tried to advertise using this tool all know how out of hand the cost can get. Well, I’m handing my faith over to an eBook that’shad rave reviews. I have to say that it is top notch. It explains everything very well. However, it still takes a lot of reading and understanding to grasp the concept of AdWords and how not to go bankrupt using it.

I still have a long way to go and I still have to understand the whole concept more; but I’m off to Spain tomorrow so I will swat up on the book then.  I have made a little money from the website that I use but it is in no way consistent. Once this AdWords campaign is fully understood there are loads of doors that open up to me. It’s easier said than done though.

I’ll post again when I’m back. Wish me luck.

A new website, more confusion!(It has actually made some money though!)

Well, I did it again. I set up another affiliate website. Surprisingly it has actually made me some money. I just have no idea what I made the commission on.

I am also experimenting on a traffic generating add on. I have read and read about this program and I don’t understand fully how it works. It involves uploading a cgi file into the ftp folders of your website, as far as I can tell. The first problem is figuring out whether you can add this program to an existing website, or whether you need to set up a completely separate website and run it from there. I was confused so I just added it to the ftp files on my affiliate website and hope understanding comes later.

Secondly, you have to try and upload the ftp file yourself. I understand the concept of how this process works and I can get to a certain point. It just doesn’t want to work any further. There is a free install option but it took 10 days for them to install it. It was free though, so I can’t complain, and in the end it was very easy from there. I just have to figure out whether it brings traffic to my site. We shall see. Once I have a better understanding of how it works I shall let you know.

In the mean time I need to tidy up this blog. There are dead links everywhere.

If anybody is interests in visiting my site it is www.moneywx.com. It has a freebie in there too!!!

Admin is king!

I hate administration. I do it for a living, and despite this career choice I find it very hard to sit down and sort out all the little things that need to be kept track of once you start on a venture like this. If you don’t, you really lose track of how far you have come and you are unable to analyse the success of one project over another.

I finally managed to do this over the weekend. I drew up a table of my earning from surveys, AdSense, paid-to-blog posts, paid emails and other stuff. It was an eye opener. I hadn’t realised I had made that much money. I thought I had only made about£35.00 at the most. I had found that once I had added all the known income streams up I had actually made £62.65, double what I was expecting. This is on top of the fact that there are literally too many surveys in my inbox to deal with at the moment, so that sum potentially could have been very much higher.

The down side is that because I had not kept monthly records of my earnings there is no way of telling how my monthly earnings have increased since I began this adventure in February. I have also failed to take into account the cost involved in advertising and sign up fees. Although these only add up to a small amount, they must be taken into account.

The final admin that needs to be undertaken is the monitoring of traffic to my site. I have noticed that PageRank has been non existant and Alexa is playing games with my score. I am pretty sure that the score was lower that the current number, but because I have no records I have no way of telling. You may be wondering why this is important to me. Wel,, in the world of paid blogging these two elements are king, the higher the PageRank and the lower the Alexa score, the more potential earnings will come my way. Starting tomorrow, each days traffic, link popularity, keyword relevance and Alexa score will be recorded. What fun!
