The importance of time management.

If there is one thing I struggle with more than anything else is the concept of time management. Everything just gets jumbled up and it is hard to see what needs doing. As well as my Internet marketing business there are other things in my life that needs my attention and trying to fit it all in sometimes just does not work.

Everybody is told in order to be successful in business you need good time management skills. So here is what I do try and keep me on track with my business and my life outside my business.

outlook

I print off one day pages from Microsoft Outlook which also includes the time and a notes section to the right. I only print of a couple of days at a time because in all likelihood the plans of what I expected to do will change. It is not a perfect system but it allows me to see how I allocate my time during the day and to what tasks I allocate time to. I also keep a sheet of the exact amount of time I spend on each activity within my business. For example, if I was writing a post on my blog I write the time I started and the time I finished. If I moved on to another activity within my business I write those down to. I then compare what I plan to do and what I actually did to see whether I am on track.

At a later date I can then add up all the time I spent in certain activities and see whether it actually made a difference in terms of income. It also allows me to see what areas of the business I need to concentrate more on.

Everybody needs to set up an effective time management system. It doesn’t need to be perfect it just needs to be good enough to tell you where it is best to spend your time and doing what activities. I still haven’t mastered it yet but it is certainly helping me plan the day-to-day activities.
